(Tribune Newspapers) The FDA says the levels of lead, parabens and phthalates found in cosmetics are so low they wouldn't pose a risk, but activists worry about the cumulative effect of using multiple products.
"We're concerned about the repeated chronic exposure to these chemicals," said Stacy Malkan, co-founder of [The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics] and author of "Not Just a Pretty Face: The Ugly Side of the Beauty Industry."
Malkan's best advice to consumers: "Simplify. Choose products with fewer ingredients, and choose fewer products overall."
